Bio

Borg Queen is an electro goth rock project from Vancouver, BC led by multidisciplinary artist Jenny Kirby. Having been described by Jamsphere Magazine as “ a little more sensual than Nine Inch Nails and a little less aggressive than Ministry “ Borg Queen is said to be like “listening to the modern musical equivilant of an Edgar Allan Poe poem.”

Borg Queen will be releasing it’s first LP Sex, Drugs & Shiny Brass Poles. The album is a follow up to the release of the 2014 single Lapdance Romance. a “lusty goth rock tale” that is “turning heads with a distinct industrial goth rock sound” according to Scandalous Women’s Entertainment Magazine. The music video to Lapdance Romance was awarded – The Beat 100: Silver Video A&R Award – for a high quality original video with good production values and peaked at #18 on the Beat100 worldwide music video chart in January 2015. Sex, Drugs & Shiny Brass Poles will be released in 2015 along with 3 new music videos.

Borg Queen originally started out as a form of art therapy when Jenny Kirby, an alcoholic stripper turned musician needed a pet project to keep her sober. Originally, Jenny set out to do a compilation of paintings based on her experiences as stripper and called it Sex, Drugs & Shiny Brass Poles. As the paint spread across the canvas Jenny found herself inspired to write a song for each painting thus merging her musical and visual art talents into a multidisciplinary art project.

Jenny is the sole member of Borg Queen. She plays and records all the instruments and does the engineering and production. Each song has a corresponding painting done in large format acrylic on canvas. Borg Queen has evolved into an assimilation of all the different artistic mediums Jenny has trained and worked with professionally including, painting, animation, acting, set design, dance, musical theatre, production design and of course music. The perfect showcase of Borg Queen’s unique integration of mediums are the music videos, where Jenny takes a very hands on approach as an art director who also designs and makes the sets, costumes and props herself.
